5 Things to Buy in February

Posted at February 9, 2012 | By : | Categories : Uncategorized | 0 Comment

Smart shopping is sometimes all in the timing, and if you’re currently in the market for certain items, now may be the most strategic month to strike. Here are five of the best things to buy in February.

Tablets

This may be the month to score the best deal in all of 2012. According to researchers at dealnews.com, if rumors surrounding the February release date of Apple’s iPad 3 prove true, you can expect to see immediate markdowns on the iPad 2 from resellers as well as discounts on refurbished iPad 2s from Apple.

Winter Coats

Logic tells us that February is a smart time to buy a winter coat, given that we’re more than halfway through winter—and it is. But this February you may find even more variety and greater steals on down jackets, ski coats and parkas, given the mild weather, which has stores desperate to unload a high volume of leftovers.

Ski Vacations

If you’re seeking a quiet place to escape this month, many ski resorts—which typically raise prices during the month of February—are offering tons of discounts, again, due to warm temperatures and lack of snow. Look for package deals in ski towns, such as Keystone, Colorado, and Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah, according to Dealnews.

Home Furniture and House Wares

February’s typically an opportune time to makeover your home. New furniture tends to enter the market this month, which means retailers will want to get rid of the older sofas, coffee tables and bedroom sets as soon as possible by slashing prices by as much as 40 to 50 percent, especially during the annual Presidents Day sales push.

During the three-day sales holiday, expect to find deals on everything from tools to bedding to house wares. Researchers at Dealnews.com say retailers typically drop prices by as much as 80 percent during the annual three-day sales event. Some will even take an extra 30 percent off existing sale items.

• Macy’s bedroom furniture sale

Chocolate

Finally, while Valentine’s Day is Feb. 14, the best time to buy chocolate is Feb. 15-17. Of course, you knew that, but if you can get over the pink and red wrapping, you’re in for at least a 50 percent discount on your favorite sweets. You can buy in bulk and freeze for several months or use the discounted ingredients for your next baking experiment.
